On March 23, Lviv-based video cameraman and photographer of 24 Channel and ZAXID.NET Yuri Oliynyk, 39, was killed in combat near Popasna, in the Luhansk region. When the war began in Ukraine, he fought as part of the 24th Ukrainian Armed Forces brigade. In 2022, Yuri went to war for the second time. The first time he replaced his camera for a weapon was in 2014, when Russia occupied Crimea and seized part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. As soon as Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine started, Yuri pledged right away that he would join the battle, and went straight to the draft board on the very first day.
Yuri Oliynyk had worked on projects including We, We 2.0, Transplantation, Save Life and Interview24, where he interviewed people living with HIV, as well as A Day in an Ambulance, and many more productions. In addition, Yuri was a talented photographer.
