Journalist Oleksandr Lytkin was killed on March 13, 2022, while defending the approach to Irpin. At the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Oleksandr enlisted in the Territorial Defense Forces. Russian troops were advancing on Kyiv then, but their progress had been slowed by the defenders of Irpin. Oleksandr Lytkin took part in his last fight at the Giraffe checkpoint.

At one time, Lytkin had worked with KNK Media and covered traffic accidents for the DTP media outlet. He lived in Irpin with his wife and daughters Zarina and Anastasiia. His family stayed in the town under intensive shelling because they could not leave Oleksandr.
Oleksandr Lytkin was buried in his hometown of Irpin on April 11, 2022. He was posthumously recognized as an honorary citizen of the town.
